Analysis of the effects of green technology innovation and industrial structure upgrading on carbon emission intensity

Abstract

Global climate change has become one of the greatest challenges to human development. China's “dual carbon target” reflects the responsibility of a major country to combat global warming. Many countries have shown a surge of interest in reducing carbon emissions, but the spatial effect of carbon emissions has been largely ignored in the literature. This study selected the provincial panel data of China from 2011 to 2020, and analyzed the impact of green technology innovation and industrial structure upgrading on carbon emission intensity from the perspective of spatial spillovers by establishing spatial econometric models and threshold models in an innovative way. The results show that green technology innovation and industrial structure upgrading have a strong inhibitory effect on carbon emission intensity and exhibit a strong spatial spillover effect.
