Establishment of environmental courts, FinTech diffusion, and enterprises' green total factor development

Abstract

Using panel data from 2012 to 2023, this study explores how the establishment of environmental courts (EEC) influences enterprises’ green total factor development (GTD), with particular attention to the mediating role of financial technology (FinTech) diffusion. The empirical results indicate that the establishment of environmental courts significantly enhances firms’ GTD. Moreover, FinTech diffusion serves as an important transmission channel through which environmental courts promote green development. The analysis also reveals substantial regional heterogeneity: the positive impact of environmental courts on GTD is more pronounced in regions with higher levels of economic development. Drawing on these findings, the study proposes targeted policy recommendations for governments and corporate managers to foster green transformation and further strengthen the institutional effectiveness of environmental courts.
