Abstract

This study examines how intellectual property protection (IPP) influences corporate supply chain digitalization, using panel data from China’s A-share listed firms between 2013 and 2023. The results indicate that IPP significantly accelerates supply chain digitalization, and this finding remains robust following multiple identification strategies and sensitivity tests. Further analysis reveals two underlying mechanisms, fostering trust-based collaboration with key suppliers and enhancing supply chain ecosystem stability. Moreover, the effect is stronger in noneastern regions with less developed institutional environments and in labor-intensive industries. These insights offer valuable guidance for firms developing digitalization strategies and for policymakers aiming to tailor IPP regimes to local conditions.
