Abstract

Using detailed loan data between Chinese listed firms and commercial banks, this study investigates how bank digital transformation influences firms' digital investment and explores the underlying mechanisms. We find that bank digital transformation significantly promotes firms' digital investment. The mechanism analysis reveals that bank digital transformation supports firms' digital investment by improving their access to bank credit and reducing banks' reliance on corporate accounting information. Moreover, the effect is more pronounced for private firms and firms with lower information transparency. Our findings enrich the literature on the consequences of bank digitalization and offer a novel perspective on the determinants of firms' digital investment.
