Abstract

With the advancement of digital technology, the innovation paradox has become an important factor affecting regional high-quality development. Using provincial-level data in China from 2016 to 2023, this study explores the relationship between supply chain finance (SCF) and regional innovation quality. Empirical findings indicate that SCF significantly promotes regional high-quality innovation, while curbing low-quality innovation, mainly through alleviating financing constraints, reducing information asymmetry, and enhancing risk-taking capacity. Heterogeneity analysis reveals that the promoting effect on high-quality innovation is more prominent in regions with developed digital finance, strong knowledge absorption capacity, and high marketization, while favoring low-quality innovation in low marketization regions. Further analysis reveals that SCF exerts the spatial spillover effect on low-quality innovation in neighboring areas and promotes regional high-quality development by enhancing innovation quality.
