Abstract

Birds contribute to human well-being (HWB) through a wide range of ecosystem services (ES) and, in some contexts, ecosystem disservices arising from ecological functions, socio-cultural interactions, and economic activities. However, the literature has not systematically examined the diversity of pathways—both positive and negative—through which bird-related ES influence different dimensions of HWB. This integrative review synthesizes scientific and grey literature to assess how ecosystem services and disservices provided by birds are linked to human well-being dimensions and value types.
