Prolongation approach to Lax pairs and Bäcklund transformation of the variable coefficient KdV equation

Abstract

This paper applies the prolongation approach proposed by Wahlquist and Estabrook to a general variable coefficient KdV equation, and the corresponding Lax pairs are obtained using symbolic computation.
