Soliton bunch dynamics in soliton rain induced by noise-mediated interaction in a mode-locked fiber laser

Abstract

Nonlinear dynamics of soliton rain is an intriguing topic in complex soliton dynamics studies, which concentrates on soliton behaviors induced by multi-soliton interactions. This article reports the complex soliton rain phenomenon with the formation of high-intensity drifting soliton bunches (DSBs) in an all-fiber mode-locked laser. Considering the temporal properties of DSBs, we infer that high-intensity DSBs introduce a long-range effect on the train length in the time scale of the soliton rain and drifting soliton interaction dynamics. Furthermore, we conclude that a competing effect between noise-mediated interaction and soliton rain dynamics contributes to the formation process of DSBs. Our observation promotes the understanding of multi-soliton interaction and might further provide insight into applications in controlling multi-solitons.
