Effect of house prices on marriage: Evidence from Korea

Abstract

Using a dynamic general equilibrium model, this study analyzes the effect of house prices on marriage. This study is the first to analyze the relationship between house prices and marriage using a general equilibrium approach. Studies typically focus on empirical analyses or use a partial equilibrium approach to illuminate the relationship between house prices and marriage. The calibrated results obtained using Korean data show that a 1 % decline in house prices resulting from an increase in policy-supported housing supply increases the number of marriages by 0.03 % but decreases total real consumption by 0.16 %.
