Does social contact lessen perceived cultural distance? Evidence from tourist–host social contact

Abstract

•The study developed and validated the measurement of social contact.•It also refined the measurement of perceived cultural distance.•Quality of contact had a negative effect on perceived cultural distance.•Effects of different quantity of contacts were revealed.•Implications contributed to the theoretical and empirical realms.
