Distribución regional y estructura espacial de la migración de las personas mayores en el Brasil

Abstract

Pese al rápido envejecimiento de la población brasileña y las potenciales implicaciones demográficas, sociales y económicas de la migración de las personas mayores, hay escasos estudios al respecto en el Brasil. En este trabajo se analiza la distribución regional y estructura espacial de la migración de personas mayores en el país y su evolución temporal, comparando datos de los censos demográficos de 1991 y 2010. Junto con análisis multiescalares de los patrones migratorios, se utilizó un método centrado en la intensidad de la interacción entre los lugares de origen y destino, lo que neutraliza el efecto de la magnitud de los flujos. Se halló una gran heterogeneidad regional en este tipo de migración y, a pesar de la similitud con los patrones migratorios de la población adulta en general, se observó entre las personas mayores una tendencia a desplazarse distancias más cortas, y vectores de distribución más estables y concentrados espacialmente.
