Demografía, desarrollo humano y desigualdades en materia de inseguridad alimentaria en 11 países de América Latina y el Caribe

Abstract

En este artículo, se estima y compara la prevalencia de la inseguridad alimentaria en 11 países de América Latina y el Caribe, agrupados por nivel de desarrollo humano. Asimismo, se evalúa la relación entre factores sociodemográficos e inseguridad alimentaria leve, moderada y grave, y se consideran las diferencias estructurales entre países. Para ello, se utilizan microdatos de la Encuesta Mundial de Gallup y la escala de experiencia de inseguridad alimentaria (FIES) de la Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Alimentación y la Agricultura (FAO). Los resultados muestran que el 40% de la población analizada vive en hogares con algún grado de inseguridad alimentaria, y el 14% experimenta su forma más extrema. La relación entre los factores demográficos y la inseguridad alimentaria varía según el nivel de desarrollo humano, lo que resalta la necesidad de implementar estrategias diferenciadas para formular políticas más efectivas y contextualizadas en la región.
