El impacto de la caída de la natalidad en los sistemas educativos de América Latina

Abstract

En este artículo se analiza el impacto de la acelerada caída de la natalidad en América Latina en la demanda educativa, la matrícula escolar y el financiamiento del sector. Mediante simulaciones basadas en proyecciones demográficas, se estiman los efectos en la población en edad escolar hacia 2050, destacando diferencias entre países y niveles educativos. Se modela la reducción del tamaño de los sistemas educativos en tres países con fuerte caída de la natalidad (Argentina, Costa Rica y Uruguay), y se evalúan escenarios de gasto educativo en distintos contextos de envejecimiento poblacional. Se concluye que la disminución de la matrícula podría liberar recursos útiles para avanzar en calidad, equidad e inclusión, aunque será necesario incrementar la inversión pública para alcanzar las metas educativas. Se subraya la importancia de una planificación anticipada y estratégica para transformar el rápido cambio demográfico en una oportunidad de fortalecimiento del derecho a una educación inclusiva y de calidad.
