Impactos de la estructura etaria en las emisiones de CO2 en el Brasil (2002-2016)

Abstract

El Brasil ha experimentado un envejecimiento progresivo de la población que puede impactar en la producción de bienes y servicios, el consumo de energía y, consecuentemente, las emisiones de contaminantes. Este artículo analiza los efectos de la estructura etaria en las emisiones de dióxido de carbono (CO2) asociadas al consumo de energía en el Brasil de 2002 a 2016. La dinámica demográfica se representa mediante la proporción de población en edad de trabajar (PET) en la población total. Los resultados apuntan a un efecto directo negativo a largo plazo sobre las emisiones de CO2. Asimismo, el efecto indirecto observado, según el producto interno bruto (PIB) per cápita, es que esta proporción contribuye a reducir las emisiones hasta un umbral de 8.047 reales brasileños, a partir del cual tiende a ser positivo. En total, predomina el efecto negativo de esta proporción sobre las emisiones de CO2 a largo plazo.
