Indígenas de la provincia de Chimborazo en Quito y Guayaquil, las grandes ciudades del Ecuador

Abstract

En esta investigación, que se basa en la información del censo de población y vivienda del Ecuador de 2022, se analiza la migración de la población indígena originaria de la provincia de Chimborazo que ese año residía en las ciudades de Guayaquil y Quito. Los resultados indican que la migración de este grupo de la población es selectiva por edad, y se observan corrientes migratorias diferenciadas hacia Guayaquil y Quito. Por otro lado, a pesar de compartir ciertas características, ambas ciudades exhiben diferencias significativas en aspectos demográficos y económicos como la actividad laboral y la propiedad de la vivienda. Este trabajo tiene por objeto ayudar a los encargados de la adopción de decisiones a formular políticas que atiendan las necesidades específicas de esta población vulnerable, así como abrir nuevas líneas de investigación sobre las condiciones de vida de los migrantes internos, en particular indígenas.
