La migración y sus efectos en la composición etaria y por sexo de la población de La Altagracia en la República Dominicana

Abstract

La migración interna, sumada a la inmigración internacional y motivada por diferencias en los niveles de desarrollo de los espacios geográficos que componen la República Dominicana, influyó en la composición demográfica de la provincia de La Altagracia en los períodos migratorios 1997-2002 y 2005-2010. Los movimientos de personas hacia dicha provincia fueron consecuencia del desarrollo de la actividad turística, que repercutió en las diferentes esferas socioeconómicas. Esta investigación se hace con el objetivo de analizar en qué medida la migración interna modificó la composición demográfica de dicha provincia, mediante el estudio de la estructura etaria, junto a la aplicación del modelo de Rogers y Castro para modelar las tasas de emigración, así como el cálculo de los saldos migratorios y las tasas de migración neta. Los resultados indican que la inmigración recibida por La Altagracia tuvo un efecto rejuvenecedor en la composición por edad y aumentó la presencia masculina.
