Impacto de la pandemia de COVID-19 en la esperanza de vida al nacer de 2020 en la Argentina: un análisis por edad, sexo y causas de muerte

Abstract

La pandemia de COVID-19 ha detenido décadas de progreso en términos de esperanza de vida al nacer (EVN). Desde 1950 hasta 2019, los descensos de la EVN fueron escasos y localizados según las Naciones Unidas (2019). La reciente disminución a nivel global fue la más alta desde 1950. En promedio, la EVN había aumentado ininterrumpidamente 0,39 años al año, pasando de 45,7 años en 1950 a 72,6 años en 2019. Según Heuveline (2022), la EVN mundial disminuyó 0,92 años entre 2019 y 2020, y 0,72 años entre 2020 y 2021. Según el presente estudio, la EVN en la Argentina disminuyó 1,0 año para ambos sexos entre 2019 y 2020. Descendió 1,2 años entre los hombres y 0,7 años entre las mujeres. Dicha pérdida se atribuyó al aumento de la mortalidad de los adultos. Las muertes por COVID-19 redujeron la EVN en 1,8 años, mientras que las restantes causas (externas y no transmisibles) lograron aumentarla en 0,8 años, compensando su efecto.
