Mortalidad por COVID-19 en los municipios brasileños: análisis de los factores determinantes entre 2020 y 2021

Abstract

Se analizan los determinantes de la mortalidad por COVID-19 en los municipios brasileños en 2020-2021. La variable dependiente es la tasa de mortalidad por COVID-19 a nivel municipal. Las variables municipales independientes se dividieron en cuatro bloques: infraestructura urbana, variables sociodemográficas y económicas, confinamiento y temperatura, y salud. Se emplearon modelos de regresión binomial negativa simples y múltiples. El número de unidades o centros de terapia intensiva, el coeficiente de Gini y la localización en la región Centro-Oeste presentaron las mayores asociaciones. La educación secundaria completa y el número de camas de hospital configuraron factores de protección. Un mayor porcentaje de beneficiarios de la ayuda de emergencia proporcionada por el Estado estaba asociado con una mayor mortalidad. Debido a la vacunación todavía incipiente y a la mayor transmisibilidad de las nuevas variantes del virus, es imprescindible entender las características de los municipios más afectados enriqueciendo el debate sobre las medidas eficaces de lucha contra la enfermedad.
