Estimación del exceso de mortalidad por COVID-19 mediante los años de vida perdidos: impacto potencial en la Argentina en 2020

Abstract

Este trabajo tiene el propósito de evaluar el exceso de mortalidad atribuible a la enfermedad por coronavirus (COVID-19) mediante el método de años de esperanza de vida perdidos (Arriaga, 1984; Pollard, 1988). Si bien se recomienda medir este fenómeno a partir del exceso de defunciones semanales, muchos países no cuentan con dichos registros. Además, el número de defunciones totales puede estar influido por las estructuras etarias poblacionales y fluctuaciones recientes de la mortalidad. Se proponen escenarios potenciales de mortalidad y se proyectan las defunciones totales esperadas en 2020. Los resultados muestran que la pandemia produciría en la Argentina un exceso de mortalidad que alcanzaría al menos un 5% de la mortalidad general, y afectaría más a la población masculina. Los grupos etarios más afectados en términos de años de esperanza de vida perdidos serían los varones de 35 a 64 años, y las mujeres de 45 a 54 y menores de 14 años.
