Linajes maternos en el Uruguay vulnerado: procesos demográficos y su correlato biográfico

Abstract

En este artículo se exponen los resultados de una investigación que busca caracterizar un modo particular de estructurar y concebir la familia, que se define como “linajes maternos”. Se trata de familias que integran el Uruguay vulnerado social y económicamente, y que presentan algunas singularidades, en particular, indicios de comportamiento matrilineal y matrilocal. Estas familias conciben de manera particular las relaciones de parentesco, la filiación, los roles de género y el pasaje a la vida adulta. Desde el punto de vista metodológico, el trabajo supuso triangular técnicas, realizando un análisis demográfico centrado en la Encuesta Continua de Hogares y un análisis biográfico de un conjunto de entrevistas en profundidad realizadas a mujeres referentes de hogar. Entre los principales resultados se puede mencionar que el 4,2% de los habitantes del país (unas 143.000 personas) viven en hogares que presentan estas características.
