Áreas de alta vulnerabilidad ambiental en América Latina y el Caribe: una perspectiva regional a escala subnacional

Abstract

En el presente artículo se distinguen áreas de alta vulnerabilidad ambiental en América Latina y el Caribe mediante un análisis exploratorio a escala subnacional, basado en la distinción de dos planos de vulnerabilidad: externo e interno. La integración de tres bases de datos espaciales -sobre desastres naturales, población y pobreza- en un sistema de información geográfica permitió identificar áreas de alta vulnerabilidad, el tamaño y la distribución de la población de cada una de ellas y la existencia de diferentes niveles de pobreza. Los resultados muestran una gran heterogeneidad entre países y dentro de ellos, lo que destaca la importancia de considerar diferentes escalas espaciales en el análisis de la vulnerabilidad ambiental.
