Las características educativas en los censos de población y vivienda de América Latina

Abstract

Por su envergadura y exhaustividad, los censos de población constituyen una fuente importante para la planificación, la dotación de recursos y el monitoreo de metas educativas y de desarrollo. Utilizando como marco las recomendaciones de las Naciones Unidas, en este artículo se sistematizan las experiencias de acopio de las características educativas de la población en las dos últimas rondas censales de 1990 y 2000 en América Latina. Mediante la revisión de las boletas censales, se discuten problemas de comparabilidad en y entre los países, se identifican probables sesgos e inconsistencias en la formulación de las preguntas y se sugieren alternativas para el diseño de este módulo en el cuestionario censal.
