El perfil demográfico y socioeconómico de la población uruguaya según su ascendencia racial

Abstract

En 2006 se incorporó en la encuesta de hogares del Uruguay una pregunta sobre la ascendencia racial (“¿Cree tener ascendencia…?”). Los encuestados podían elegir más de una opción entre las siguientes categorías: afro o negra, amarilla, blanca e indígena. En el presente documento se analizan los principales resultados obtenidos a partir de esta información, con el objetivo de caracterizar una dimensión de la desigualdad social muy poco atendida en el Uruguay. También se presenta una síntesis del perfil de la población según la ascendencia racial, considerando sus características demográficas, económicas y sociales. Cabe aclarar que en este trabajo se asume que el término “ascendencia” refiere a la ascendencia racial.
