Uso de las estadíticas vitales de mortalidad para evaluar el impacto de la reforma del sector de la salud en las localidades de Costa Rica

Abstract

La reforma del sector de la salud en Costa Rica, iniciada en 1995, no se llevó a cabo al mismo tiempo en todas las comunidades del país, sino que se aplicó paulatinamente en una especie de experimento natural, lo que permite evaluar sus consecuencias haciendo uso de las estadísticas vitales de mortalidad principalmente. Asumiendo un diseño de evaluación cuasi experimental, se analizan, con la ayuda de modelos de regresión múltiple, las tendencias en diversos componentes de la mortalidad en los 420 distritos del país durante el período 1985-2001.
