La experiencia de Colombia en la medición de la emigración internacional, sobre la base de la pregunta sobre hijos emigrantes al exterior

Abstract

La emigración internacional es difícil de estimar, pues los registros de viajeros no brindan información suficiente ni responden al concepto de migración; por otra parte, en los censos se recoge información sobre los inmigrantes, pero no sobre los residentes en el exterior. Por ello, desde la década de 1970, se realizan tareas para conseguir esta información a partir de los censos del país de origen, mediante la inclusión de preguntas sobre los emigrantes del hogar o sobre determinados parientes que vivan en el exterior, con el fin de estimar la emigración en forma indirecta. Además, el Centro Latinoamericano y Caribeño de Demografía (CELADE) - División de Población de la CEPAL desarrolló el proyecto IMILA para recoger información sobre los inmigrantes en los censos según el país de origen. En el presente informe, se describe la experiencia de Colombia en cuanto a la inclusión de la pregunta indirecta sobre los hijos e hijas sobrevivientes y residentes en el exterior en el módulo de fecundidad del censo, declarado por las mujeres de 15 años o más.
