América Latina: patrones emergentes en la fecundidad y la salud sexual y reproductiva y sus vínculos con la reducción de la pobreza

Abstract

La relación entre fecundidad y pobreza que existe en América Latina y el Caribe tiene la particularidad de que los rápidos cambios demográficos (especialmente la disminución de la fecundidad) han resultado no estar claramente asociados a una reducción de la pobreza o a un desarrollo económico sostenido. Los objetivos de este documento son: i) analizar los patrones emergentes en América Latina y el Caribe en materia reproductiva y sexual y su relación con la condición socioeconómica, y ii) estudiar en detalle la actual relación entre pobreza y comportamientos sexuales y reproductivos con el objetivo de incorporarla en las políticas contra la pobreza. Para ello se utilizaron los datos provenientes de las Encuestas de Demografía y Salud correspondientes a Bolivia, Colombia, Perú y República Dominicana.
