Brechas salariales entre el sector público y privado en Chile: evidencia a partir de datos longitudinales

Abstract

A pesar de la relevancia del tema, la literatura sobre las diferencias de salarios entre empleados de los sectores público y privado en América Latina es escasa. En este trabajo se analiza la brecha salarial entre estos sectores en Chile a partir de datos mensuales longitudinales de la Encuesta de Protección Social (eps) en el período 2002-2009. En el trabajo se aprovecha la estructura de panel de los datos para controlar por factores observables y no observables, invariantes en el tiempo, que determinan la autoselección de los trabajadores entre sectores y los salarios. Los resultados indican que, luego de controlar por estos factores, desaparece el diferencial de salarios entre los trabajadores de los sectores público y privado asalariados.
