La CEPAL en su contexto histórico

Abstract

Esta conferencia destaca rasgos de la situación colonial deAmérica Latina que condicionaron el desempeño económico y social dela región en el siglo XIX y principios del XX. Trata con particular detalleel caso argentino, encontrando en los sucesos posteriores a la primeraguerra mundial y de inicios de la segunda, antecedentes de la formacióny experiencia de Raúl Prebisch, quien 30 años después imprimiría a lacepal sus características fundamentales. Examina las ideas aportadaspor la cepal al debate sobre el desarrollo latinoamericano y la evoluciónde los países que aplicaron algunas de ellas; también las circunstanciasexternas e internas que desde mediados del decenio de 1970 mutaronel entorno en que se aplicaban las políticas de desarrollo. Por último,señala los cambios más recientes en la situación económica mundial yel papel de la CEPAL en la defensa de las ideas de libertad, bienestar ytolerancia, esencia de la civilización moderna.
