La independencia de los bancos centrales y su relación con la inflación

Abstract

Este artículo se basa en análisis anteriores acerca de la independencia de los bancos centrales y en él se comparan las clasificaciones -resultantes de tres índices- de los bancos centrales de 15 países. De este análisis se desprende que no existe un concepto común de independencia de los bancos centrales y que los índices miden el sesgo inflacionario. El caso de Brasil sirve de ejemplo para examinar, sobre la base del índice de Cukierman, las consecuencias de un aumento de la independencia sobre la inflación. Los resultados indican que el grado de independencia de los bancos centrales es una consecuencia de la conducción de la política monetaria y que no es un marco que propicie el desarrollo de la credibilidad. /
