Regímenes cambiarios y desempeño macroeconómico en Argentina, Brasil y México

Abstract

En este trabajo se analiza la manera en que los regímenes cambiarios de Argentina, Brasil y México influyeron en el desempeño macroeconómico de esos países en el período 1994-2003. Mediante este análisis se intenta extraer conclusiones aplicables a los países de América Latina y otros con el fin de determinar si la elección de un régimen cambiario puede contribuir al crecimiento sostenido, y de qué manera puede hacerlo. Como es imposible aislar el efecto del régimen cambiario sobre el crecimiento en un estudio comparado de países, aquí se hace hincapié en las variables macroeconómicas que han sido identificadas en la literatura teórica y empírica como vías de transmisión importantes por las cuales la elección de determinado régimen cambiario afecta el comportamiento económico, a saber, la inversión, la apertura comercial, los flujos de capital y las rigideces fiscales o institucionales. /
