Abstract

Coastal areas have been important for human beings for centuries. One of the most important functions in these areas with different uses is ports. As a result of the developing technology, changing socio-economical and geographical values, port activities started to move towards upstate areas as of the second half of 20th century. In consequence of abandoning the port areas which were located on the most precious parts of the cities, idle regions which became wreckage areas have arisen. Several projects are developed to regain the said areas which are located in a certain region of the city area but became a wreckage and which threaten the city in a sense. In the study, Haliç (Golden Horn) sample are included. The purpose of the sample chosen in the re-evaluation process of the coastal areas is to introduce the coastal areas abandoned after post-industrial period into the urban life. Within this process, the following topics are addressed; • Public-private cooperation • Participation of the society • The methods used to realize urban projects which are urban renewal, redevelopment, preservation, restoration, rehabilitation, sanitation, gentrification. • It is attempted to analyze the status of the gentrification in Haliç projects.
