El Sistema de Bancos Sombra y la Inestabilidad Financiera Internacional

Abstract

El objetivo de este artículo es analizar y destacar la estructura y funcionamiento de los bancos sombra como instituciones que tuvieron un papel central en la crisis e inestabilidad financiera de 2008, lo que puede contribuir a identificar riesgos financieros en el futuro. El crecimiento interrelacionado de los bancos sombra a través de sus hojas de balance es el proceso que se identifica como un mecanismo de retroalimentación financiera que se traduce en fragilidad financiera y finanzas endógenas tipo Minsky. Los bancos sombra constituyen el canal de transmisión de la fragilidad financiera internacional y no la titulización y los instrumentos surgidos de este proceso (CDO, CDO sintéticos y CDS) como se ha argumentado. Los bancos sombra comercian y crean mercado para estos instrumentos en el ámbito internacional, por lo que las causas y prevención de la crisis financiera internacional adquiere una mejor y más amplia explicación.
