Abstract

The purpose of this article is to build the PQLI Index for each one of the 22 Departments in which the Republic of Guatemala is divided and afterwards to determine which subregions are those in demand for further welfare. The data used was gathered from an updated version of the Integrated National Census of 2002. The objective of this investigation is to provide elements on the correct measurement of the quality of life in Guatemala and an approach to the identification of the most extreme expressions of poverty in the different departments of this country.
