Abstract

ABSTRACT. The aim of the article is studying the Turkish-Bulgarian origin of a number of ethnonymic and onomastic elements associated with early medieval population of the North-Western Ciscaucasia, within which the old Russian Tmutarakan Principality was located. Methods. Comparative-historical analysis and comparison. Results. The author’s research allows a new look at the famous interpretations of certain historical facts. Conclusions. Defining these ethnonymic and onomastic elements allows concluding that during the period under review the region was originally inhabited by Turkish-Bulgarian languages speakers.Â
