Abstract

ABSTRACT. The aim of the article is analyzing the role of the military component which determined a functioning of the Japanese state in the 7-9th centuries. Methods. The study of the originals and copies of documents in Russian and Japanese. Results. It was during this period when so-called military homes emerged in Japan, and military service became considered as one of the most important state functions. Brining up to strength of Armed Forces was based on the conscription. However, despite the progressive nature of this system, which has been adopted by Japanese from China, in a Japanese reality (no enemies) it was unnecessary and in the 9th century it was replaced by "private" military forms. Conclusions. The fact that this system with minimal changes was adopted as a basis of the Imperial Japanese Army in the second half of the 19th century, and existed until 1945, demonstrates its advanced nature and great historical significance.Â
