Study on the Impact of Social Barriers on Women Managers and Entrepreneurs

Abstract

The issues related to women’s career development has caused major concern. Workshops and seminars are organized annually to help women overcome the barriers in the business environment. It is due to features of the world labour market in the late 20th century, which encourages an active participation of women in economic life. Thus, the study was entirely conceived by centering the issue of the glass ceiling on the development of women’s professional career in the Romanian business environment. The aim of research is to find the barriers faced by women and the effects they generate in the Romanian business environment. Also, the comparative study was completed by a quantitative research aimed at observing if the barriers and effects are felt among the female employees and entrepreneurs. The results showed a significant correlation between the barriers facing both categories under study, but they did not point to a relation between the effects and the environment where they work. The conclusions summarize the results obtained, as well as the limitations of the present research, and the possible solutions to the phenomenon.
