Abstract

Introduction: laser therapy was a therapeutic medical treatment using light of a single coherent wavelength. It was applied to injuries to improve wound healing and soft tissue healing, reduce inflammation, and relieve acute and chronic pain. The objective of this article is to describe the usefulness of Red Point laser in onychocryptosis. Method: a descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted at the Carlos J. Finlay Military Hospital from November 2018 to February 2019. The selected sample consisted of 40 patients with the presence of onychocryptosis in the first and second stage of the lesion. Results: patients with the presence of onychocryptosis in the first and second stage of the lesion were studied, two groups were formed; Psychological treatment was applied to both groups and then Infrared Spot Laser sessions were applied. Conclusions: It was demonstrated that the combination of psychological treatment with physical means provides a minimally invasive and effective alternative in the treatment of onychocryptosis, in the first and second stages.
