Abstract

Introduction: More than 200 million people in the world are affected by Diabetes Mellitus. Foot problems are a threat to all those suffering from this disease. Worldwide, more than one million lower limb amputations are performed every year due to Diabetes, which means that every 30 seconds a lower limb is lost due to this disease. This high figure is unacceptable. Results: incision and drainage of the abscess plus extensive debridement of the devitalized tissue is performed, managing to eliminate the septic focus and a better metabolic control, allowing to save the limb and the patient's life. Conclusions: Of the many complications that affect people with diabetes mellitus, none are as devastating as those related to the foot. They include peripheral artery disease, peripheral neuropathy, ulcers, infections and amputation. Given the increase in the number of people with diabetes, we will see more and more problems of their feet, so it is very important to act on the risk factors and lifestyle habits of this population group to avoid complications
