Prevalence of periodontal disease in chronic kidney disease patients

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) can be triggered by multiple causes, primary or secondary depending on the renal damage that occurs in the context of systemic diseases or diseases of the kidney itself. In CKD patients, the main cause of morbidity and mortality is cardiovascular disease in pre-dialysis, dialysis and transplant stages. Because periodontal disease is a chronic inflammatory disease, it is an important risk factor for CKD. For this reason, its diagnosis is important for early treatment and, consequently, modification of this risk factor (1). This study included 21 patients of both sexes, aged 18-69 years, who were undergoing renal replacement therapy at the time of consultation. A clinical dental examination was performed and the presence or absence of periodontal disease was determined
