Current trends on placental disease and its impact on maternal and child health

Introduction: Preeclampsia and Intrauterine Growth Restriction are two of the main obstetric syndromes that contribute to maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality. Objective: To systematize the knowledge of placental disease and its impact on maternal and infant health through the results of research on the subject. Methods: A documentary review, qualitative and descriptive research was carried out, and the following theoretical methods were used: historical-logical, analytical-synthetic, inductive-deductive. Results: The contributions of the researcher Turcios FE and his collaborators, who presented three clinical cases with retinal detachment, an event secondary to choroidal ischemia, as a result of retinal vasospasm as part of the multiorgan involvement of preeclampsia, were significant. The work presented by Ayala Yauri M. (2021 Peru) on Delayed Intrauterine Growth was relevant, emphasizing the importance of integrated evaluation with Multivessel Doppler to improve prediction and prevention in the first trimester of severe IUGR. Conclusions: The systematization of the specialized bibliography consulted on the subject has revealed sufficient elements in the authors' opinion to carry out educational strategies in terms of care for women of childbearing age for the prevention of placental disease and its complications.
