Abstract

Pyrethroids are manufactured chemical substances that act at the level of the central nervous system, whose mechanism of action is to interfere with ionic transport in the axon membrane, interfere with neural function and block inhibitory pathways. The use of these substances as insecticides has spread massively worldwide due to their lower persistence and toxicity. The objective: of this research was to associate clinical manifestations with exposure to pyrethroids in workers of the fumigation and pest control company, located in the Sucre municipality, Aragua state during the period of February - June 2024. Materials and methods: It is about of a quantitative approach study with an observational, clinical-epidemiological, analytical, cross-sectional design and with documentary support in a population of 22 workers. Results: The average age was 34.95, 90% of the workers were male, it is relevant that 50% carry out mixing preparation, application and fumigation activities, 100% use personal protective equipment, 54.55% have contact with the pyrethroid, with potential exposure of 54.55% of which 100% of them presented signs and symptoms, and the presence of symptoms with the level of exposure. Conclusion: it is corroborated that occupational exposure to pyrethroids represents a serious risk to the health of workers, because exposure is directly related to the appearance of neurological symptoms.
