Abstract

The study assessed the relationship between social determinants of health and the prevalence of arterial hypertension in older adults at the "Miraflores" Health Center at "24 de Mayo" canton, Ecuador. It aims to analyze how socioeconomic status, education, and access to health services influence the onset and management of this disease. A descriptive and cross-sectional approach was used, interviewing hypertensive patients and the health center staff. The results revealed that low educational levels and difficulties in accessing medical care are factors that increase the prevalence of hypertension in this population. Additionally, it was found that many patients do not regularly attend medical check-ups, worsening their condition. The study concluded that improving access to healthcare and promoting preventive education is essential to reduce the incidence and complications of hypertension in the geriatric population.
