Abstract

This research examines the human rights violations faced by older adults deprived of liberty with catastrophic illnesses. Through an exploratory approach and the use of the interpretive method, key information was gathered on the issues affecting this vulnerable group, including the lack of adequate medical care, discrimination, social isolation and the absence of specific rehabilitation programs. The findings highlight the need to implement concrete measures to guarantee the protection of their rights, promoting inclusive policies and programs that ensure access to adequate medical care. In addition, it concludes the importance of analyzing the institutional barriers that perpetuate these violations and exploring effective strategies to address them. It is also recommended to investigate the impact of these violations on the physical and mental health of older adults in confinement and to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions aimed at improving their quality of life
