Abstract

This article explores the interplay between dance and cultural identity, with a particular focus on the preservation and transmission of local dance forms in the context of globalization. It examines how globalization poses challenges to the survival of traditional dances and highlights the efforts made by various communities and institutions to protect these cultural practices. Case studies such as the documentation of African dance forms by the Smithsonian Institution and the digital archiving of Polynesian dance forms are discussed to demonstrate the role of technology in safeguarding endangered traditions. Furthermore, the article explores how dance festivals, training institutions, and digital platforms have contributed to maintaining the vitality of classical Indian dance forms like Bharatanatyam and Kathak. The analysis underscores the importance of cultural preservation in a rapidly globalizing world and suggests strategies for the future sustainability of local dance traditions.
