Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly being explored in palliative medicine because the field involves prognostic uncertainty, high symptom burden, complex decision-making, and extensive use of electronic health record data.[1,2] Contemporary reviews suggest that AI applications in palliative care are still in an early translational phase, with the strongest evidence concentrated in mortality prediction, advance care planning, symptom assessment, and documentation support rather than fully autonomous clinical decision-making.[1,12] At the same time, limited external validation, poor transparency, and unresolved ethical concerns remain major barriers to routine clinical use.[1,3] This narrative review summarizes the current applications of AI in palliative medicine, highlights the main methodological and ethical limitations, and outlines priorities for future research and implementation.[1,3].
