Abstract

Despite low expectations on income, which are especially related to early stages of start-up development, entrepreneurs are satisfied with their self-employment. But retrospectively, what factors influence the entrepreneurs’ willingness to start the same business again in terms of repeating the former decision taken? This study empirically investigates determinants influencing the willingness of re-establishing in Germany, using a representative database of 1,992 entrepreneurs in Germany. The empirical findings add first comprehensive evidence to the area of entrepreneurs’ willingness to redo it again. Results show that especially extrinsic motivators are crucial for the willingness to re-establish. Extrinsic motives effect the willingness to start again even stronger than intrinsic motivators, which showed an important, but less strong significant effect, too. The entrepreneurs’ age and sex were not significant. Results were calculated using logit models. A complementary probit and relogit model confirmed the robustness of the estimation results.
