Abstract

Against the backdrop of the current discussion that proposes little spread and substantial hurdles of voluntary corporate health care activities in small and medium sized enterprises, this paper displays a differentiated analysis on effects of company size on the number and nature of voluntary corporate health care activities. Different from our propositions, the results of a survey among 101 Austrian companies show no significant relationship between company size and (1) the number of voluntary health care activities, (2) their preventive or curative nature, and (3) the structural or personal nature of health care activities. However, compared to large enterprises, voluntary corporate health care activities in small and medium-sized enterprises focus significantly less on providing information about health care to employees.
