New Work: Managementmode oder eine Revolution?

Abstract

Some management concepts come and go, some become classics. Management Fashion Theory provides insights of how management fashions can be distinguished and recognized. This article illustrates the characteristic features of the theory using the example of the concept of “New Work”. / Manche Managementkonzepte kommen und gehen, manche werden zu Klassikern. Die Management Fashion Theory liefert eine Beschreibung dafür, wodurch sich Managementmoden auszeichnen, wie sie sich verbreiten und erkennen lassen. -- Das Konzept „New Work“ hat den Anspruch und das Potenzial die Arbeitswelt langfristig zu formen. Auch wenn erst die Zeit zeigen wird, ob New Work als Konzept auch langfristig durchdringen wird, so soll hier eine Meta-Perspektive eingenommen werden. New Work ist derzeit eine sehr populäre und äußerst ansteckende Managementidee, die dennoch mehrere Merkmale einer Managementmode erkennen lässt. Gleichzeitig deutet einiges darauf hin, dass sie möglicherweise von längerer Dauer ist und nicht nur eine vorübergehende Modeerscheinung darstellt. Der Aufstieg und Fall von Managementmoden wird mittels der Management Fashion Theory analysiert. Aus der Perspektive der Management Fashion Theory soll die Frage beantwortet werden, wie sich „New Work“ verbreitet hat, welche Akteure daran beteiligt sind und wo New Work im Modezyklus angekommen sein könnte.
