Abstract

In times of high uncertainty and market turbulence, organizations are facing great challenges and are under strong pressure for transformation. The concept of ambidexterity offers companies a variety of perspectives and opportunities to shape change and to deal with contradictions. The aims of the article are to show how organizations and managers are able to create the conditions for innovation through ambidextrous approaches and how companies can achieve an appropriate balance between exploration and exploitation. This article examines both the individual and the organizational level. Furthermore, this paper presents three phases in which an organization can critically reflect, implement and develop ambidexterity. These phases can support companies to implement ambidexterity regularly and increase the complementarity of the two “forces” exploration and exploitation.
