Abstract
Architectural heritage has today become a genuine vector of communication and cultural, institutional, and territorial performance. This heritage contributes to the construction of a new cultural order that influences perceptions, practices, and behaviors, particularly in relation to the challenges of sustainable development. This paper examines the role of design, interior architecture, and scenography in the enhancement of built heritage in Tunisia through innovative mediation devices, cultural spaces, spatial arrangements, and sensory experiences. The strength of this innovative approach lies in its global and transdisciplinary perspective, as well as in the development of new mechanisms serving architectural heritage. The study raises the following question: How can mediation establish new forms of communication that support the dynamics of architectural heritage and its territory? Sustainable development strategies are addressed through multiple dimensions, highlighting the role of the designer in conceiving and supervising ecological projects that respond to the growing challenges generated by new modes of discovery, exchange, and sharing. To this end, it is essential for interior architects and scenographers—called upon to apply their skills across diverse projects—to develop autonomy, contextual understanding, and the ability to connect with their ecological environment. This contribution is based on research work, case analyses, and professional interventions, mobilizing multiple forms of knowledge related to structural systems, construction methods, materials, technological equipment, and installations. The creation of digital mediation devices can enhance the dynamics of lived experience and reveal the articulation between experiential design and heritage. These frameworks may constitute the foundations for developing a grammar of heritage and design through valorization projects with cultural, social, and environmental impact.
